Educator Awards

ASM Materials Education Foundation and ASM International support three distinguished awards for teaching excellence:

Kishor M. Kulkarni Distinguished High School Teacher Award

  • Award was established through a generous donation by Dr. Kulkarni (past ASM Trustee) and his family to honor and recognize the accomplishments of a U.S. high school science teacher who has demonstrated a significant and sustained impact on pre-college age students.
  • Candidate must be a full or part-time actively employed U.S. high school teacher.
  • Suggested candidates include past recipients of ASM Foundation K-12 Teacher Grants and graduates of the ASM Materials Camp Teachers Camp program.
  • Any ASM member may forward a qualified application/nomination for consideration.
  • Award includes cash grant of $2,000 plus the recipient’s travel cost of up to $500 (to receive the award at the ASM Awards Dinner).

Bradley Stoughton Award for Young Teachers

  • Recognizes a teacher of materials science, materials engineering, design and processing.
  • The ability to impart knowledge and enthusiasm to students is a key consideration.
  • As the award is for a young teacher, the nominee must be 35 years of age or younger by May 15 of the award year.
  • Requires current ASM membership

Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award

  • Recognizes long (not less than 20 years) and devoted service in teaching materials science and engineering.
  • The ability to inspire and impart enthusiasm to students, and significant materials accomplishments, are key considerations.
  • Requires five years of current, continuous ASM membership.
  • Requires three statements from close associates.
