The Cleveland Cliffs Foundation

The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation is the Cliffs Corporation (Cliffs) charitable giving avenue. Cliffs began as a mining company in 1847 with operations primarily in Upper Michigan and Minnesota, but headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. In the past decade, they have been growing through acquisitions of companies that go through the actual steel-making process. (AK Steel, Arcelor-Mittal, etc.) So, the organization is now North America’s largest flat-rolled steel manufacturer.

Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel company in North America and a leading supplier of automotive-grade steel. The Company is vertically integrated, from mined raw materials and ferrous scrap, to primary steelmaking and downstream finishing, stamping, tooling, and tubing. Cleveland-Cliffs has the unique advantage of being self-sufficient in the production of raw materials for steelmaking. With ongoing initiatives to reduce waste, improve water conservation, and reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2030, we promise to become North America’s leader in steelmaking sustainability.

The company has a strong focus on community engagement, encouraging employees to get involved and having their Foundation lead in many of those efforts. There are several Cliffs employees that are ASM members, particularly in Cincinnati where their research & development facility is located. The ASM Materials Camp for Teachers in Cincinnati will be touring it this summer. With their new commitment to the ASM Foundation, Cliffs is looking for more opportunities for connections and engagement.
