The Foundation’s 25th Anniversary of the Eisenman Materials Camp®
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Eisenman Materials Camp®, the flagship event of the ASM Materials Education Foundation. Named after William Hunt Eisenman, the first managing director of ASM International, this camp is a highlight of the Foundation’s annual activities. Dedicated to sparking interest in materials science and engineering, the camp brings the foundation’s mission to life.
The Eisenman Materials Camp® attracts applications from across the country, but only 30 highly motivated students are accepted each year. Throughout the week-long camp, these students engage in group projects and experiments under the guidance of “Materials Mentors”—professional members of ASM International. They gain hands-on experience with advanced laboratory equipment and delve into real-world applications of materials science.
Targeted at high school juniors and seniors, the camp features interactive, lab-based activities, including forensic engineering investigations. Students also enjoy field trips, mini-demonstrations, and evening social events with a materials science theme. The camp culminates in a graduation ceremony, offering students the chance to network with industry leaders and professionals.
