ASM Materials Education Foundation Trustees recognized the need to annually honor an individual who has made a significant impact on our ability to reach students and teachers to increase awareness of materials and applied science careers. To recognize the importance of educational outreach, Trustees established the George A. Roberts Award in 2003. The first recipient was its namesake, Dr. George A. Roberts, who served the materials community with great distinction for many years.

2024 Recipient: Ms. Dana Drake

The 2024 recipient of the George E. Roberts award is Ms. Dana Drake
Ms. Dana Drake is the Metals Lab Engineer for EOS North America, the world’s leading manufacturer of laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (LPBF-AM) machines. At EOS North America, Dana manages and develops the metals testing laboratory, increasing its capabilities and performing testing. The laboratory specializes in metal powder characterization, metallographic sample preparation and mechanical testing to support the internal R&D, Applications, and Consulting groups. Dana has been an Eisenman Materials Camp mentor since 2012, has served as its curriculum leader for a number of years, and was instrumental in developing and running ASM Foundation’s virtual Materials Camp for students through the pandemic. Her guidance and enthusiasm have helped many students learn about and pursue Materials Science and Engineering.
