ASM Materials Camps

Materials Camp®-Teachers I

This week-long, hands-on lab experience shows educators how to use applied engineering techniques in their classroom. Materials Camp®-Teachers is an idea-generating workshop introducing teachers to methods that make math and core science principles more enticing and relevant to their middle and high school students.

Materials topics are great motivators in any engineering, technology or science course as students learn concepts that are reflected in their everyday lives.

Materials Camp®-Teachers II/Advanced

The Materials Camp®-Teachers II/Advanced (sometimes referred to as “Year 2 Camp”) is for educators who have already attended Materials Camp®-Teachers I. The primary goal of this program is to help teachers prepare and implement a successful Materials Science course.

Priority will be given to teachers that will be teaching a Materials Science course in their district for the first time – they already have approval for a new course or are stepping into an established course. Others will be accepted as room allows with consideration given to how much of the Teachers Camp curriculum they have incorporated into the classes they currently teach.

Specialty Materials Camp®-Teachers: Materials Genome

The Materials Genome Initiative is designed to accelerate the design of new materials by incorporating fundamental materials property databases and computational tools into the traditional engineering design process.

Prior attendance at any other Materials Camp®-Teachers is encouraged but not required.

Teacher Institute

Our new offering, held at ASM International’s Headquarters, is designed for teachers to work with industry experts! The Teacher Institute will allow teachers to take a deeper dive into a subject, develop lesson plans, and share the information with other teachers.
